Self-discipline is something everyone is blessed with; however, only a few people put it to work. It is those who use their self-discipline to become successful in life, no matter what age you are.
We all get a surge of motivation where we feel like we can conquer the world; however, that doesn’t help with consistency. Discipline is what helps with consistency.
Mastering the art of discipline is something we should all look to do. That way, we can achieve our fitness goals or progress in our careers. It is the mental strength to push ourselves to the goals we desire.
How To Build Discipline
Discipline is focusing on tasks each day to achieve the end goal. It is the level of consistency you need when you say “I don’t feel like training today” or “I don’t feel like doing the extra bit of work I need to progress”. Having discipline is essential for you to become a better individual and achieve your short-term and long-term goals.
Write Down Your Goals
The first step you need to take is to write down your goals. You can’t remind yourself of your dreams every day when you lose the mental battle. Writing down your goals in a bullet journal or on a whiteboard and hanging it on your wall is that reminder you need.
On a bad day, you will forget about your goals. If you see these goals on your wall, it is a constant reminder of what you want to achieve. It will help with your discipline and keep your eyes on the prize.
On the days when you don’t feel disciplined, practice self-compassion. Self-compassion is important because you need to feel the same way about yourself each day, even on the bad days.
Understand Priority
The next thing you need to do is understand priorities. It is something many people get wrong which is why they lose track. That is why you need to make a list of priorities.
Creating a list in the front of your journal is a way to understand your priorities. Write them all down first before creating your priority list. Then each night, you must write a priority list of things you are doing the next day. For example, your first task could be to make your bed, the next could be to have a cold shower, or whatever you want to do after.
Setting yourself priority tasks will help you focus on the right things first. As soon as you focus on these tasks and finish them. You can move on to the next task. It is a great way to become disciplined because you focus on the right things.
Understand Your Weaknesses
We all have weaknesses and that is ok however, understanding your weaknesses is a great way to stay disciplined. If you are easily distracted at home when working, go to a co-working space where you can get your work done there.
If you are the person who says “I’ll do it tomorrow” then make a change. Attack it by saying “I’ll do it today”. Attack the tasks that you want to put off to help you become more disciplined.
Have Someone Keep Track Of Your Progress
Another way to stay disciplined is to keep track of your progress. Keeping track is essential for yourself but if you have someone else to keep an eye on your progress, they will help push you. It could be anyone such as your partner, family member, friend or work colleague. Whoever it is, get them to push you to your limits.
Summary
Being more disciplined is difficult but we all get waves of motivation and the real skill is turning that into discipline. That could be anything such as going to the gym in the morning, having a self-care routine at the end of each day, or even spending an hour reading the latest stock market news so you can be a better investor and avoid trading scams.
There are many ways to ensure you become more disciplined so ensure you research different methods to push yourself to achieve your goals and become more disciplined.
